PayPal’s New AI Brings Much Stupidity

When logging onto PayPal these days you are greeted by Alex Chriss the President AND CEO of

Paypal starring in a 17-plus minute video explaining the wonderful improvements AI has brought and is bringing to PayPal.

Full transparency, I tried watching twice but could not get through the whole video even with lots of fast-forwarding.

On 2/17/24 I added a new bank account (same bank) after one of 2 commercial bank accounts got hacked.

12 days later & after speaking with 13 of PayPal’s top-tier support agents during that time I still am unable to instantly transfer any funds to our new primary bank account.

Reasons given for the snafu

PP “You made too many attempts”

Me “The error said “Something went wrong try again later so I did.”

PP “You need to wait 24 – 48 – 72 hours (responses on 3 separate calls)

Me “What is triggering the block”

PP “We don’t know”

Me “I’ve uploaded my driver’s license but after one day of allowing instant withdrawals the account is blocked again”

PP “You need to wait 48 hours before attempting again.”

Me “That didn’t work.”

PP “Your bank is blocking PayPal.”

Me “I walked across the street (see featured image to Chase, met with my banker Emily who called the Chase fraud department on my behalf, and was told there are no blocks on the new account but please remind your customer of how much fraud comes out of PayPal,” which she did.

PP “I’d wait 24 to 48 hours”

PP “Your bank account is too new which is why it is being blocked.”

Me “I sent $100 to another PayPal commercial account – paid the fee and then paid the additional fee to instantly transfer what was left of the $100 into the NEW BANK ACCOUNT so your statement is inaccurate.”

PP “I’d wait 24 to 48 hours.”

To get a sense of scale – this PayPal account is 21 years old and has processed millions of US dollars – I’ll let the math whizzes calculate the fees in their head.

As I write this we operate 6 online social stores, 1 proprietary website, a small vintage shop, Square credit card processing, and 3 PayPal accounts all connected to the new bank account

I even got eBay processing again, uploading a driver’s license, articles of incorporation, and a printout of the new account transactions.

The printout was not acceptable, they NEEDED a color statement.

I wrote back that the account was 6 days old so there would not be a statement until the month’s end.

We got that worked out.

But here we are 13 days after adding a new Chase bank account and in spite of all this new-fangled artificial intelligence – PayPal is still stuck on stupid.

Alex, check with your executives around the globe on what 300-character note I entered upon requesting LinkedIn connections.

You are keeping me from my money which is pissing off this old Sephardic Jew, so I’m just warming up.
